Background – Gaye Amus

Gaye Amus, founder of Learning In Nature Ltd, is an environmental educator, author, permaculture designer and is specialized in early childhood education.

She has been living in Finland for 17 years and is based in Helsinki.  Her experiences stem from working in various kindergartens, including a forest/nature kindergarten. She is currently training educators internationally, contributing in conferences, giving seminars and consultations on sustainability, nature education and outdoor learning.

In 2013 she graduated from the Environmental School of Finland as an environmental educator and was one of the first graduates. 

In 2015 Gaye initiated the nature movement for kindergartens and primary schools in Turkey with Forest Schools and Forest Kindergarten Leader trainings.

Gaye is also a TEDx speaker: “There is no such things as bad weather only proper clothes.”

She has had an article published called “An alternative journey into forest kindergartens and the Reggio Emilia approach”, which depicts some of her experiences in early childhood education in Finland during the years 2007-2012. The article can be found online here.

Gaye pioneered and co-founded the Children in Permaculture project and is the co-author of the new book “Earth Care, People Care and Fair Share in Education: The Children in Permaculture Manual”.

She is the author of the book “Come Out and Play: A Learning Journey Towards Nature Pedagogy” (2022) which depicts her experiences as well as her personal journey in Finland and provides practical information for parents and teachers on why and how to go outdoors with children.
